    HR9588 Academic Skills + Employability
    Instructions on Assessment
    COMPONENT 001 (40%): (INDIVIDUAL) JOB MARKET REPORT

    Write a 1,000-word report which critically analyses employment and opportunities within your chosen job market sector.

    Important Points + Guidance:

    This is an academic essay and should therefore be written entirely in the third person.
    To address this assignment task, you will first need to choose and research employment and opportunities in a specific job market sector. We recommend that you choose the specific job market sector you intend to pursue after university, because this will allow you to develop enhanced insights which then feed into Component 003 of the assessment (see page4). We will signpost you on Blackboard to key resources which will support research into specific job market sectors.
    You will need to be very specific about your chosen job market sector. Roles such as ‘Management’ or ‘Business Consultancy’ are too vague and broad. Instead, narrow this down to something more meaningful. You could focus on a specific industry, such as ‘renewable energy’ or ‘motor manufacturing’, or a specific role, such as ‘Sales Manager,’ or ‘HR Business Partner’; or if you like, be even more specific: ‘Sales Manager in the Renewable Energy sector,’ or ‘HR Business Partner in the motor manufacturing industry.’ Where you are already in employment, give us specific detail on your current or planned job market sector.Continues…
    In your essay, you should discuss the context of your specific job market sector. Key aspects you could research and discuss include: What does this jobs market look like? What kinds of people work in this sector? What key challenges do they face? What does a typical day look like? What skills and attributes do they need? For this last question, it will help if you identify a person specification and job description for a ‘typical’ graduate-level role for someone who works in this job market sector, or for the specific job you are aiming for if you are seeking promotion or career transition / change.
    Feel free to further contextualise your essay by focusing on a job market sector based in a specific country which is of interest to you. If you choose to be country-specific, you will need to ensure that there is sufficient relevant scholarly sources to support your discussion
    Remember, this Component does not specifically focus on you and your career, but on the job market sector in which you either wish to work in, or currently work.
    Acceptable scholarly sources to underpin your report include journal articles, textbooks, professional body reports (for example, Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development), graduate research organisation reports (for example, Prospects), government statistics and reports (for example, Office for National Statistics) and good quality newspapers and news websites (for example, The Guardian and BBC News.)
    Unsuitable sources include Wikipedia, unsubstantiated blog information, unsubstantiated web page information, and poor-quality news sources (for example tabloid newspapers.) Please do not use them.
    You can illustrate your discussion with a small number of charts and tables drawn from the literature. If you decide to incorporate them, they must be included in the body of the essay and correctly labelled (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.) They should notbe added to your submission as appendices.
    See MARKING RUBRIC(page 9) for overall guidance on how we will assess your submission.
    Upload your final work to the Turnitin portal labelled Component 001(Note that Components 002 and 003 are uploaded to different portals.)

    Topics

    Healthcare Issues and Government

    The most controversial and contemporary health policy issued from the government, since the advent of Medicare, is the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) of 2010. The impact can be seen with:

    1. Health insurance protection from discrimination or pre-existing conditions;
    2. Increased access to health insurance through subsidies for defined earnings;
    3. Dependent children remaining on healthcare insurance plans of parents until 26 years of age;
    4. Employers with >50  employees providing access health insurance plans;
    5. Availability of preventative screenings to Medicare recipients; and
    6. Closing the “doughnut hole” gap for prescription drug coverage with Medicare recipients.

    This government policy creates many challenges for our nation with the predicted influx of over 16 million individuals into the healthcare delivery system. This predictably has potential for grave effects on the federal budget. Ongoing details on this policy’s survival at the state and national level are provided ongoing through web site updates. The ACA will affect decision-making in healthcare over the following years. Nursing professionals should rise as healthcare leaders in organizations with this integrated policy and partake in the ongoing monitoring of the effectiveness for developing further recommendations to future policy change.

    US Government and the Legislative Process

    Passage of the ACA required political action at unprecedented levels for promotion of this agenda at the federal, state, and local levels of government.  Working knowledge of the government legislative process is a priority for nurses wanting to participate in motivating healthcare agendas at all levels. This is a good time in the course to review the operations of the legislative process and how a bill becomes a law; this information can be found at:

    https://www.usa.gov/branches-of-government

    Regulatory Processes

    Regulatory processes directly impact professional work life. Regulations for changing the nursing profession evolve from state levels, but can originate on a federal level, from new or amended law. “Regulations specify definitions, authority, eligibility, benefits, and standards” (Mason et al., 2016, p. 386). Input to these regulations also come from other special interest groups such as professional nursing organizations, for example. The Federal Registrar is a daily publication of proposed regulations at the federal level, which can be reviewed as draft. In addition, the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) oversees federal health care programs such as medicare and medicaid. The web site is provided for this above, and everyone is encouraged to access this document and become familiar with the format.

    Phase 1 Example

    For this assignment it was suggested in chapter 3 (page 49) and in Module 5 Table of Specification video for you to view state standards online or secure a copy of state standards or K to 12 Curriculum Guide to assist with learning objectives. The state standards or curriculum guide will assist you with obtaining objectives (learning competencies) for this assignment.

    If you do not have access to a K-12th grade curriculum guide, you should use the state standards to complete this assignment. Each state has standards of learning that are expected for students to learn throughout the year for each subject matter and grade level.

    For example:

    The State of Missouri Learning Standards defines the knowledge and skills students need in each level and course for success in college, other post-secondary training and careers. These expectations are aligned to the Show-Me Standards, which define what all Missouri high school graduates should know and be able to do.

    The Show-Me Standards were approved as a final regulation by the Missouri State Board of Education, January 18, 1996. The standards are built around the belief that success of Missouri’s students depends on both a solid foundation of knowledge and skills, and the ability of students to apply their knowledge and skills to the kinds of problems and decisions they will likely encounter after they graduate. The standards serve as a blueprint from which local school districts may write challenging curriculum to help all students achieve.

    I have attached a copy of a portion of the State of Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) 2nd grade Relationships and Algebraic Thinking standards for your viewing.

    Please do not use this example as part of your project.

    Example:

    Knowledge, skills or attributes to be assessed.

    Knowledge: I am assessing students’ understanding of the foundations for multiplication and division.

    • Copy and paste the date and title of the video or podcast episode as it appears on the selected platform.

    Answer the following questions (minimum 50 words each):

    2. Intriguing Aspect: Discuss one aspect or fact that intrigued you and explain what you learned from it. You may relate this to your personal experiences. Include any striking statistics or information that you found important and might want to remember. Provide a short title that reflects your answer.
    3. Reflection: Reflect on one of the following (include a short title for your answer):
      • How will you apply this new knowledge to your understanding of the crypto/blockchain space?
      • Did the episode change your perspective on any cryptocurrency or blockchain concepts? Explain.
      • If you were a guest speaker on this episode, what would you add to the conversation?
      • Would you recommend this episode to a friend? Why or why not?
      • How does the podcast content apply to different cultural or socio-economic contexts? (Consider the diverse backgrounds and experiences in your reflection.)

    Why Including a Title is Important:

    • Providing a title for each of your answers is a useful technique because it helps you summarize and reflect on the answer you give. This process aids in organizing your thoughts more clearly and helps you remember and integrate the knowledge better.
