For this assignment, the student is required to submit a Population-Focused Education Project
related to their assigned patient scenario. There is no template for this assessment. The student
should select a target audience, choose a topic, specific to their target audience, and create the
project based on the educational need of the target audience. The student is required to use a
holistic approach and be creative when adding information which would be pertinent based on
what they know about the patient thus far. Students need to include information on:
the disease processes
patient safety concerns
typical physical assessments
signs & symptoms
treatments including medications
importance of plain language in patient teaching
Remember, this could be a patient education piece and should be created appropriately.
From the table below, students must choose one format from column A and one from column B
for the project. The formats chosen should be aligned with the appropriate target audience and
specialty track (i.e. nurse educators aim presentations for nursing students) or level (i.e. RN-BSN
or prelicensure students aim presentation for patients).
A B
Patient Brochure/Handout PowerPoint Presentation
Educational Handout Video Presentation
When preparing your project please identify your target audience and explain the significance.
The appropriate place for the introduction for the items in column B is at the beginning of the
presentation.
