This assignment is worth 20% of the final mark for FIN205 Data Technologies for Financial Modelling.

This is a group-based assignment. You should form a group of 4 members from your seminar group. Each group is required to upload a single report via your respective seminar group site in Canvas. Please elect a group leader. The responsibility of the group leader is to upload the report on behalf of the group.

It is important for each group member to contribute substantially to the final submitted work. All group members are equally responsible for the entire submitted assignment. If you feel that the work distribution is inequitable to either yourself or your group mates, please highlight this to your instructor as soon as possible. Your instructor will then investigate and decide on any action that needs to be taken. It is not necessary for all group members to be awarded the same mark.

Note to Students:

Compose your report using Microsoft Office Word, and save either as .doc or .docx (preferred).

You are to include the following particulars in your submission: Course Code, Title of the GBA, SUSS PI No., Your Name, and Submission Date.

Use of Generative AI Tools (Allowed)

The use of generative AI tools is allowed for this assignment.

You are expected to provide proper attribution if you use generative AI tools while completing the assignment, including appropriate and discipline-specific citation, a table detailing the name of the AI tool used, the approach to using the tool (e.g. what prompts were used), the full output provided by the tool, and which part of the output was adapted for the assignment;

• To take note of section 3, paragraph 3.2 and section 5.2, paragraph 2A.1 (Viva Voce) of the Student Handbook;
• The University has the right to exercise the viva voce option to determine the authorship of a student’s submission should there be reasonable grounds to suspect that the submission may not be fully the student’s own work.

In this assignment, you will assume the role of a financial analyst who is trying to provide good service and advice to your clients by communicating to them insights into companies. You hope that not long from now, you will be able to gain a sufficiently large and loyal following to start managing your own fund.

To analyze companies, it is necessary to

• Observe and track the market, particularly the companies that you are analyzing and how the economic environment affects them
• Reason about the companies – their current state and impending progression – given the situation surrounding them
• Articulate your ideas in reports or presentations, or act out your hunch through decisions on trades or investments

For example, a financial analyst needs to track the companies under her charge, appreciate the economic environment, make projections about the impending developments based on published data and market information. She also needs to present her understanding in presentation and reports, as well as to make recommendations to her clients on the buying or selling of stocks.

In this assignment, you will observe and track the current market and companies, reason about the financial situation concerning the companies, and blog about your observation and reasoning as you progress through the FIN205 course.

You may use WordPress or other blogging platforms for blogging and you may refer to well-established finance blogs, finance websites or the publications of financial analysts (e.g. equity reports) for examples and ideas.

On your blog, please clearly display the following statement:

You will be assessed based on the following:

a. How good you are as a blogger (e.g. communicative, avid, informative)
b. Are you being of service to your reader by exhibiting market knowledge, suitably appraising risks and returns, and illustrating strategies?
c. Ample reasoning with finance concepts and usage of contrasting data tools, such as those covered in the course
d. Presentation
e. Maintenance of cordial relationships to achieve a fruitful collaborative outcome

If a peer review is initiated, Point (e) will be scored zero.

The presentation comprises 2 parts:

• Each member of the group will present one (1) aspect of the group’s work to be recorded in a video format (approximately 3 minutes per member)
• A Q&A session between your group members and instructor

Deliverables and Submission

The deliverables for this assignment are therefore:

• A blog
• Evidence of Point (e) from above to be recorded on 1 A4-sized page (single-side)
• A presentation in the form of one video file (containing all the video presentations by the group members) and a Q&A session with the instructor

Thus, in addition to the blog, you are to submit, on Canvas, the following items:

• a Word docx containing your response to the questions below into GBA01 folder
• a video file into -GBA01-Video Submission folder
• a zipped folder containing the web pages from your blog for archival purposes into -GBA01-Webpage Submission folder
