Assignment Title: Individual Reflection and CPD

Description of the assignment, task, content and structure:

As individual work, each student is required to submit a reflection (skills log) using the eight core CIPD behaviours and continuous professional development (CPD) plan.

A template document (My Development Record) is provided to assist the student in reflecting on the range of skills involved in managing themselves and others at work and the development of their HR professional behaviours.

Each student will need to draw on and show knowledge of the core CIPD Core Behaviours and reflect on their individual skills, abilities, knowledge and preferences. The assessment will reflect both their current position and the steps necessary for them to develop and broaden the longer-term skills required for continuing professional development in their career both during and after the MA HRM programme.

1. Personal SWOT analysis (20%)
2. Personal Development Log (50%)
3. Personal Development Plan (30%)

SWOT – Each student will map the 8 Core Behaviours as they see them applying to themselves in relation to their Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats (400-word limit).  See the template for instructions.

Personal Development Log – Each student will then develop a full reflection on 4 of the Core Behaviours from learning and experiences from their personal and professional life to date.  Each Core Behaviour reflection should be 400 words in length (1600 words in total).

Personal Development Plan (PDP) – The PDP should be over a realistic timescale covering up to 12 months from the last week of the module and include a set of SMART objectives. The PDP must relate to and include the 4 CIPD Core Behaviours (that the student identified in the Personal Development Log) and within the context of their development as an HRM practitioner (no more than 2 sides of A4).  The student must use the template provided.

This is an academic reflective writing activity, and each student must critically analyse their behaviours and skills assessments using a minimum of 5 academic models or theories. Reference lists should be offered using the HBS Harvard Referencing System and drawing on credible sources.
