Conduct case study research on global strategic management and (choose 1) of the UK- based tourism organisations from the four organisations:

  1. P&O Cruises
  2. Royal Caribbean Cruises
  3. British Airways
  4. Travelodge

Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the nature of global corporate strategy, strategic decision-making, and global strategic processes within the chosen organisation; explore its internal and external business environment, its global strategic opportunities, global strategic issues/challenges, and its competitive advantage.

Provide recommendations for a future global strategy and implementation plan for the chosen tourism organisation (4000 words).

The Case Study must:

  1. Define strategy, global strategy, global corporate strategy, and global strategic management.
  2. Explore the internal and external environment analysis of the selected tourism organisation.
  3. Discuss the nature of global strategic processes, global strategic options, and strategic decision-making.
  4. Discuss organisational culture, organisational resources and how they impact the strategic context of the chosen organisation.
  5. Discuss the global business issues in relation to your chosen organisation, and the strategic context of the organisation.
  6. Explain competitive advantage, the sources of competitive advantage and the company’s sustainability strategies.

Important:

This case study research must be based on reliable research and have a minimum of 20 different sources within it which includes the core reference lists.

Description of the task:

The guidance below sets out the requirements of the task and a suggested structure for the case study.

Chapter One – Introduction (350 words) – Aims and objectives of the case study, comprehensive definition of strategy, global strategy, global corporate strategy, and global strategic management. Also, introduce the tourism organisation of your choice from the four organisations with its brief history, and outline the structure of the case study research.

Chapter Two – Strategy, Global Strategy and concept of Strategic Management (600 words)

  • Discuss the organisations vision, mission, culture and values.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of global strategic management in your organisation of choice.
  • Mention your organisations strategic positioning and options.
  • Discuss the strategy and strategic management as it relates to their strategic positioning and options.

Chapter Three – Organisational strategy, corporate strategy, strategic processes, strategic options, strategic decision making (650 words).

  • Demonstrate your understanding of the nature of organisational strategies by defining corporate strategy, strategic processes, strategic options, strategic decision-making.
  • Implement /apply how important these are to your chosen organisation.

Chapter Four – Transitioning of Strategic planning, Industry Interpretation and the Organisational Impact (650 words).

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the BCG Matrix applying it to your organisation.
  • Explain Mintzberg’s five Ps of strategy and apply it to the tourism organisation.
  • Discuss challenges or limitations does the organisation face in its strategic planning.

Chapter Five – Impact of industry limitations and potential solutions (700 words)

  • Define organisational resources. Discuss the organisational resources your organisation will use in the context of the limitations you have identified.
  • Define organisational culture. What are the impacts of organisational culture in strategic context in your chosen tourism industry.

Chapter Six – Competitive advantage, Competitive analysis and their application (700 words).

  • Discuss the various strategic opportunities for the organisation of your choice. What are the strategic issues/challenges?
  • What is competitive advantage? Explain the concept of competitive analysis and why it is important.
  • Conduct a competitive analysis of the competition. You are expected to use practical examples to support your discussion.

Chapter Seven – Conclusion and Recommendations (350 words)

Summarise your findings, reiterate the key points and arguments on strategic management of your chosen organisation. Put forward the key findings of the processes, strategic options, strategic decision making within the organisation.

  • Highlight the identified strategic opportunities, strategic issues/challenges.
  • Provide recommendations for a future strategy and implementation plan for this tourism organisation and conclude with your final thoughts.
  • Provide recommendations to the challenges/ limitations faced by the organisation during its strategic planning.
