Assignment Scenario
You are employed as a project manager for the Principal Contractor appointed to construct a new-build project at a primary school situated on Pomona Street, Sheffield. The works involve the construction of a new 2 storey teaching building (located in the land to the rear of the existing school) as shown in figure 1 & 2. See appendix A for further site details, boundaries and building specification.
Task 1
As part of the construction phase plan development, you have been asked to prepare a proposal for the general site arrangements. This proposal aims to explain and justify your choices, making links to specific safety legislation, site restrictions and the potential legal implications of non-conformance. Your proposal must also be accompanied by a layout plan to visualise these arrangements.
Task 2
Further to proposing the general site arrangements, you are actively involved in planning the installation of the first-floor to the new school building. This activity involves lifting approximately 100 number (200mm x 1200mm up to 8000mm) concrete hollowcore floor planks into position on the steel frame. Figure 3 shows the layout, each concrete hollowcore floor plank weighs approximately 3 tonne.

3. Formulate Health and Safety plan for a construction project and demonstrate critical understanding of UK construction project health and safety management planning practice.
4. Research and evaluate key issues in construction Health and safety management practice and critically analyse real-life health and safety contraventions.
